Hurricanes P3577, P3700, P3901 all RFoE 303 Sq

From info gained from Aces High 1/2 and elsewhere, I found that P3700 RFoE was flown by Feric on 6/9/40. It was shot down on 9/9/40.

P3577 RFoE was flown by Zumbach on 15/9/40.

P3901 RFoE I assume was the replacement for P3577 and was flown by Urbanowicz from 26/9/40 to 30/9/40.

Could someone please confirm the fate of P3577 for me?

Thanks
Peter

15 September 1940 303 Squadron, Northolt Hurricane P3577. Failed to return from combat with Bf109s over the Thames Estuary off Gravesend 3.05 p.m. Sergeant Michal Brzezowski missing. Aircraft lost.

I have no information on the individual aircraft code letter.

Thanks Peter. That fills the gap. What is your source?

Aces High says Zumbach flew P3577 on 15/9/40 when he shot down a Bf109E.

Aces High 2 says the code letters of the plane Zumbach flew on 15/9/40 was RFoE. May have been a different mission, but as Shores concentrates on kill details, I'd say the two go together.

That's good enough for me.

Cheers
Peter

In his 3 volume history of 303Sqn http://www.wingleader.co.uk/shop/303sqn3volumeset/ Wojtek Matusiak confirms that on 15/9/40 P3577 was RFE.

Re: Hurricanes P3577, P3700, P3901 all RFoE 303 Sq

Peter,

My source was notes personally extracted from the No.303 Squadron ORB over 50 years ago when held by the Air Historical Branch at Queen Anne's Gate in London. The same source notes ZUMBACH's claim for a 109 during an earlier (noon) engagement on 15 September 1940 but not the serial number of his aircraft unfortunately.

Steve,

Thanks for the confirmation. Does anyone have a clue to the original source of the individual code letters as cited in Aces High ?

Thanks guys.
Peter - sorry, as far as I can see, Shores doesn't give a source for his code letters.
Cheers
Peter
