31st March 1942 - 1000 Feindflug - General Loehr

Good night Gentlemen

On the 31st March 1942, General der Flieger LOEHR participated of a cerimony on MONTDIDIER, celebrating the 1000th sortie (Feindflug) by a Reconaissance (Aufkl.122 ?) or Wekusta Unit.

Do we know WHO made the 1000th sortie? Which crew?

On the photo I have there is a Ju 88 D on the background...

Thanks for any link regarding this celebration.

Adriano

Now found that the crew was from 3.(F)/122: Obfw Heinrich Geuter (FF), Lt. Friedrich Salecker (BO), Uffz Heinrich Gärtner (BF) and Uffz Herbert Banz (BS).

Do not know, though the codes of the machine that flew the 1000th sortie. Most of the crewmembers were later awarded the DKiG.

As a point of interest, I used to own the Wehrpass for a Leutnant Werner Salecker (BO) of 3./122.

From 3./122 he was transferred to 1./123 and was posted as Vermisst on 06-April-1944 20 km SW of Anzio. Is this possibly the same man with a typo on his christian name at all? also there was no mention of the DKiG in his Wehrpass.

I would be interested in seeing the photo of the ceremony if at all possible.

Regards Richard.

Dear Richard,

http://www.luftwaffedata.co.uk/wiki/...el_-_3_Staffel

YES, a typpo of my part from that site above, who have a Lt. Walter Salecker instead of Werner Salecker...

De Zeng files (Luftwaffe Officers lists) do list both of them correctly....so there is no doubt about the DKiG winner (and Ehrenpokal winner too), who was also shot down and KIA later.

Will post the photo on my next message, tomorrow.

Thank you for posting that, I always like these images of parade/ceremonies.

I sent Doug Stankey scans of all pages of the Wehrpass for the Officer Career Summaries, and was pleased to see his entry accordingly.

If you would like a high resolution scan of his Wehrpass photo, just ask.

Regards Richard.

If you go to this link below and scroll down to post 607 you can see photos of such a similar event. What impressed me most was that all of the crew were killed in a few weeks after the celebration.

Just for interest, this article from the magazine Flieger, Funker, Kanoniere covers the 2000 Feindfluge by 5.(F)/122. It was flown in aircraft F6+PN over the Lake Ladoga transport routes on 6th September 1942. The crew members are listed in the caption to the photo.

Hello Tim.

Thanks for sharing that Picture (I do have another shot of the same cerimony too).

Richard, thanks for the offer and help. Am focusing on Walter, who won the DKiG. But thank you very much indeed. The first time I do receive such kind offer. If I can be of assistance too, do not hesitate to communicate. I have been helped, during the last 25+ years by hundreds of persons and always do try to reciprocate too.

Mathieu amazing link and fotos. The book about Aufkl 123 in German seems wonderful and plenty of information, etc.

Quite a lot of new publications are gaining life nowadays....I do follow some French and UK Editors, but do not know too much from the German side....Wish one day someone will publish a full Biography of Hans-Georg Bätcher and a lot of other veterans....

Cheerio for all

Adriano
