441 Sqd (RCAF) Combat with Fw 190s 13-7-44
441Sqd was flying north when 12 Fw190s with long tanks were spotted flying west just north of Laigle (L'Aigle ) around 2030 hrs, in the following combat 10 Fw 190s were claimed . S/L Branngan claimed 2 which blew up and crashed, F/O Myers claimed three the first blew up and disintegrated, the second bellied in and burst into flames while the third spun in two parachutes seen, F/L Mott claimed one whose pilot baled out, F/L Copeland claimed one which went in from 50', F/O Plummer another crashing from low altitude, F/O McKenzie engaged one from astern with the pilot baling out, while F/O Kimball's rolled over and dived into the ground.
Can the Luftwaffe unit involved be identified please I have checked what I have and can only find one Fw190 of JG2 shot in the area at that time . It would seem 4 German pilots were seen to parachute, but from the 441 Sqd. combat reports I would have thought there would be other casualties, |
Re: 441 Sqd (RCAF) Combat with Fw 190s 13-7-44
This has been stated as being a clear case of over-claiming and II Jagdkorps only lost 5 FW 190s throughout the whole day whilst the RCAF claimed....10 in this combat alone!
