Hello Balazs,

GI+LD is one of the 17 Bf109 Ga-4's built by the Hungarians for the Luftwaffe between July/August 1943. the WNr. is 16654.

I'm sure someone here will know more about its history.

regards,
Tomislav

Dear Balázs,
although it was published more than a decade ago and a couple of new informations were found since than about Hungarian Messerschmitt 109s the best source is still the "A Messzer" by Punka György. (except its printing quality...) Unfortunately you will not find the answers for your questions about GI+LD.:-(

Dear Remi,
can you give more detailed info please? I'm interesting in Hungarian machines in Luftwaffe service, but I find only a couple of MWG built 109s in Lw units (JG 3, JG 5, JG 27, JG 52, JG 53, JG 77, JG 300 and NAGr.8 )

Dear Tomislav and Remi,
the late built Hungarian 109s received Werke Numbers in WNF blocks (441xxx, 442xxx, 200xxx, 201xxx, 510xxx, 511xxx rows) and in 125xxx, 126xxx and 127xxx also after June 16,1944 when an agreement was signed between the WNF, the MWG, and Donau Flugzeugbau AG. about common Messerschmitt 109G production called "Flugzeugbau Aktiengesellschaft".

regards,
Peter

I am not Tomislav, nevertheless will answer the question.

The name of the Hungarian manufacturer was 'Magyar Waggon- és Gépgyár Részvénytársaság', abbreviated MWG.

Hello Dénes,

Thanks for the great answer. For some time, I was also looking for the full hungarian name of the MWG.
In some german sources the name MAVAG (maybe MAgyar VAGon ...) is mentioned. Do you know if they are refering to the same factory, or perhaps to a german branch?

best regards,
Tomislav

That's a different company altogether!

MÁVAG= Magyar Állami Vas-, Acél- és Gépgyárak (Hungarian State Owned Iron, Steel and Machine Works), located at Budapest–Diósgyőr.
