Question on Sonderstaffel Tr.O.
The KTB of Sonderstaffel Tr.O makes reference to three separate Sonderstaffel - notable B, D, and G/Sonderstaffel. The entry for 31/3/40 makes not that after repairs the aircraft (singular) of D/Sonderstaffel is reported ready for action. The impression is that only one aircraft is used by each Sonderstaffel
My question, then, is "D" (or indeed, B or G) the aircraft letter and thus a single aircraft represents a 'sonderstaffel' (in which case does anyone know the Vkz of the unit as it was my understanding it never used one), or does the letter represent something entirely different? Any help clearing this up would be appreciated. TIA Adam |
Re: Question on Sonderstaffel Tr.O.
The Sonderstaffel Tr.O. (Transozean) was one single Staffel operating the Dornier Do 26 aircraft and also one or two Blohm & Voss Ha 139. The letters you refer to are the individual aircraft letters. The unit code was P5+ -H. The individual letters were A,B,C,D and on. However, only 6 Do 26 were ever built, three being lost during the campaign in Norway (then with 9./K.G.z.b.V. 108 but flown with marking of Sonderst. Tr.O) and one in November 1940 in Brest.
