Additional details on two Nachtjagd losses NJG3 and 3./NJG11, 4-5 November 1944

Dear all,

I am looking for additional details about two Nachtjagd losses on 4-5 November 1944:

-A Ju88 of NJG3 in the hands of Uffz. Wilzel that came down at Katwijk. (Which Gruppe, time of crash and fate of crew?)

-Bf109 G-6 ‘White 12’ of 3./NJG11, which was shot down in air combat at an unspecified location, with the loss of the pilot Ofhr. Rindler. (Location of crash & time of crash?).

Cheers and thanks for any details,

Theo

No Ju 88 lost with Uffz Welzel or Wilzel.
Maybe "your" Welzel:
1944-11-05, 2./KG 53, He 111 H-16, 8540, A1+GK, Kootwijk
Flugzeugführer Ofhr Mallach, Karl-Heinz, +
Beobachter Uffz Röhl, Paul, +
Bordschütze Ogfr Kartak, Anton, +
Bordschütze Uffz Welzel, Karl-Heinz, +
Notlandung infolge Antennenberührung. Bruch ? %.

Hello Lilsis and Matti,

Thanks for both your replies, so the Ju88 at Katwijk in fact was a He111 at Kootwijk. Reason for asking is that the rear gunner of 166 Squadron Lancaster PB153 claimed an attacking Ju88 as probably destroyed some 10 km west of The Hague at 19.16 hrs. I've no German report for a Ju88 (or other type of ac) damaged or lost in combat at this stage, so the Ju88 will remain unidentified for now.

Cheers, Theo

Strange reasoning say plane still unindentifed, when in fact not Ju 88, and is indentified as He 111 by Matti abowe. Claim therefore seems wrong type.

Hi Ed,

All I meant to say is that apparently there is no relation between the 166 Sqn Lancaster claim for a 'Ju88' probably destroyed and the loss of the He111, as the He111 NVW clearly states the cause of loss as an accident ('Antennenberührung', or 'contact with an antenna' and subsequent crash landing).

Best regards, Theo
