Anti Mosquito Ops with 6/JG 300 and 1/NJGr 10.
 

In a package recently received from BAMA there was a documnet detailling subject operations. Oboe equipped Mosquitos was a particular problem for the Luftnachrichten Dienst and the Luftwaffe as such. The mere detection and tracking was for a long while a problem on it’s own, but this was solved thorough NAXBURG. But detection and tracking is one thing, effective defence another. It flew faster and higher than most German nightfighters and the standard 88 mm Flak could not effectively engage the Mosquito at their operating altitude.
I was surprised to learn that enough Bf 109 and Fw 190 were produced with FuG 217 to form an entire squadron in order to counter these attacks. Please see:

..there's a nice (and presumably extremely rare) photo in J-Y Lorant's "Le Focke Wulf 190" of a line-up of FuG 218-equipped Fw 190 A-8's of 1./Nachtjagdgruppe 10 all displaying a large boar's head marking on the cowling..I don't think these machines were specifically designated for Moskitojagd though..

Did you see the line under the boar's head? "Kognakpumpe", for civilised people Cognacpumpe, for English people "Brandy-Pump"! Pompe à cognac! At least this is funny. I'm sure that ol' boar enjoyed good brandy.

scant few of the Fw's of 1./NJGr 10 were equippped with FuG 217 or 218 for that matter. In any case III./JG 300 was more of a specialty Mossie fighter gruppe than any one but hey for the most part took on RAF bombers. Michael I have answered your inquiry elsewhere and Neil is correct about 6./JG 300 and their Fw's...........propaganda

I am interested in learning as much as possible about Luftwaffe anti-Mosquito operations. This site http://www.gyges.dk/Anti%20Mosquito.htm provides some information, but were there any other units involved?

I vaguely recall reading that some day-fighter units were equipped with stripped-down/souped-up fighters in order to catch the Mossies, but were disbanded after a while for lack of success - or am I confusing these with the night-fighter units?

I would like to know of any modifications to improve the speed of fighters for this purpose, and what result they had.

I would also like to know how many successes anti-Mosquito units had, and what percentage this represented of attempted interceptions. Is this information available?

Tony this would be the 109 equiped JG25 and JG50. They were formed after a couple of daylight raids on Berlin in late Jan 1943 that interupted some official functions.
