Loss of Ju 86 22. Feb 1941

GQM on RL 2 III/770 page 26 gives the following loss information:
22.Feb 41 FFS C2 Neu-Ludwigsaue emergency landing due to fuel shortage
Ju 86 8650 100% pilot Uffz. Paul Baier killed, BM Fw. Richard Lemke wounded.
The given c/n seems to be wrong or incomplete.
I suspect it should be 08650xx or similar.
Does someone has the NVM for this loss with the hopefully correct c/n?

Regards

Dirk

Dirk

Since no one seems to be willing to commit themselves, I stick my neck out but only a little. :)

As I see it there are two possible faults.
Either there is one digit missing in the middle, ie 86050, making it a very old Ju 86 or there are two digits missing at the end as you suggest.

Personally I favour the missing one in the middle since I can understand you miss one, but not two digits....

Stig - that be 0860050, but likely not - this has other stkz reported - TR+NT - than given in DVL incidents, that has two fatal crashes (but possibly three known, one possibly in error as Ju 88). There are two fatal Ju 86 crashes listed in DVL incident lists (1 died, 1 injured seems fit for this as DC+MX). I have been wondering if this be Ju 87 or Ju 88 , but 8650xx seems likelyest.

Thanks Ed

Well, frankly I have too little Ju 86 WNr to go by, but I was not aware they had double zeros in the middle on those early ones. The few references only mentioned one....:o

As I said, missing one digit is OK (human) but two?? Could someone fire that clerk, please!! :D

Cheers
Stig

No problem, you are welcome. Some RAF records are like this,
but sensitive mention here, and USAAF/AF too have errors.
No one is excepted.

Re: Loss of Ju 86 22. Feb 1941

Thanks for the replies to both of you.
The c/n is as written in the report.
I also x-checked with the "bones-reports", but could not find a 100% candidate there.
I do not expect a Ju 87 at a C-school.
Ju 88 may be possible, but the c/n seems to be to high for this date.
I even donīt know right now, if that high c/n was ever produced.
I can check 860050, then back at home, if this may be a candidate.

Re: Loss of Ju 86 22. Feb 1941

It is impossible to speculate on the W.Nr. On this aircraft based on the currently available data.

There was a W.Nr. Series in the 08650** range
And there was a W.Nr. series in the 086005* range

And since it is not known which digits are missing, the mid ones or the last ones or even in other positions of the W.Nr. there can only be wishfull speculations at the moment.
