Melsbroek (B58) May 1st 1945

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

On the morning of the May 1st 1945 RAF Chedburgh flying control was warned about a Mitchell that had taken off from Melsbroek (B58) on an unauthorised flight. The pilot and crew were to be detained on landing and under no circumstances were they to be allowed to take off again. The Mitchell did not land at Chedburgh and the circumstances about its flight remained unknown.

Any details on this ?

TIA

Steve

Steve,

Mitchell of RAF No. 98, 180 or 320 (Dutch) Squadron most likely. All three were in process of transfer to Achmer, Germany.

If check of their monthly reports is possible?

Regards,

Leendert
