Ju 52 unit code......again!!!
Hello,
I have two entries from a logbook saying that on 11. and 14. December, 1939 the pilot/student flew with two Ju 52, coded 2D+IH and 2D+NH, instrument and night flights. These took place in Fürstenwalde, FFS (C) 10 I have looked but cannot find the code 2D anywhere, does anyone know where to send me, so I can again learn something new? Thanks in advance, Christian |

Re: Ju 52 unit code......again!!!
Looking in Barry Rosch's Bible, I notice he follows Gogh and says 2D was Flugbereitschaft/RLM Staaken.
Flugbereitschaft in its general sense only means 'ready to fly' but no doubt this was some kind of VIP unit as all other such units were in their basic form. It is interesting so see that Luftwaffe still use such a title for its VIP staffel. I was intrigued by the unit designation used by Matti and I wonder what it stands for? Fl usually stood for Flieger/Flug and may stand for Flugbereitschaft here, but I find nothing that corresponds to Bm in Rosch's book. Sch has to be Schule. So, guessing wildly, could this be something to do with training personal to become pilots and crew of various VIP units? :o Anyone? Cheers Stig |
Re: Ju 52 unit code......again!!!
Flugbereitschaft in its general sense only means 'ready to fly'Some wartime Allied sources translate it as "Duty Flight". I suppose the comparison is a "Duty Officer", available to call on at any time if they're needed. |
Re: Ju 52 unit code......again!!!
Quite correct that too Nick
No doubt the assigned crews had to be ready and on stand by around the clock to satisfy the needs of both politicians and high ranking officers. Cheers Stig |
Re: Ju 52 unit code......again!!!
The 110 is coded '3U' for ZG 26.
