Luftwaffe casualty 1943

Hi was wondering if anyone could help me with this Luftwaffe pilot who was killed in action on December 1943.

His name was FW Wolfgang Bernhardt, believe was a bomber pilot.

Thanks in advance

The only one listed in the Volksbund with that name and year is Unteroffizier Wolfgang Bernhardt (Born 29th Nov 1920 in Berlin) and killed on 9th July 1943 as a Beobachter (Observer) in a Do-217K-1 (Wn.4510 U5+FP) of 6.KG-2.
The aircraft crashed at Bicknor Court Farm in Kent. Crashed while on a raid to London, believed to have collided with a Mosquito night fighter that also crashed at the same time.
All crews were killed. Bernhardt is buried at Cannock Chase.

That's great, thank you,
His death card had December 1943, but am sure that's him.
Kind regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

As Luftwaffe researcher for the Aircrew Remembrance Society I can send you the following from our archive of growing UK Luftwaffe losses, have also attached grave photo. Is there a chance of a descent scan of your Sterbebild?
Would like to add to our website with full credits to you if possible.

Kind regards

Melvin (Aircrew Remembrance Society)

Surely the rank is wrong & the gap between July & December is a bit suspect? Also he was not a pilot

Ben: No attachment and surely the date of him missing would have been July not December?
