2Lt.Otis A.Kurth 509 FS 339 FG

Hi,

On 3 March 1945 2Lt.Otis A.Kurth (0-721440, born on 25 September 1922 and enlisted on 6 November 1942) lost his life when his P51 crashed at Oostmalle, Belgium.

Parts of the wreckage of the plane were found last year (see http://www.planehunters.be/p-51-mustang-2lt-kurth/).

Which was the serial of his plane ? What happened with him and his plane ?

Many thanks and best regards

Luc

Hello Luc,

O-721440.

https://www.fold3.com/image/32088553...0A%5C.%20kurth

Hometown Wichita, Kansas. ( Casualty list is Sedgwick County, Kansas ).
No 509th in 339th.
Was the 504th Fighter Squadron.
Last seen strafing Rail targets. Probably lost to AA fire.
Mission 226 Escort to Dallberger, Germany.
( 0748-1250 ).
The 504th broke escort and strafed rail traffic in the Hilgesheim-Celle-Lippstadt area. One pilot lost.
Details from "339th Fighter Group".
Two MACR's in Fold 3 but not Kurth. Seems there isn't one.
He had been a replacement pilot , only with the Squadron from November '44.
There is a picture of him in the book.
