8th AF first - 4 July 1942

Hello,

A few questions about the very first mission of the 8th AF.

- Which RAF unit lent its Bostons?
- Where did they take off from and at what time?
- Were the Bostons wearing British of US roundels?
- What are the serial numbers of shot down aircraft?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Dear all,

I may be wrong, but memory do lead me to an article written circa 1996-1998 by Martin Bowman about Swanton Morley (including a VC citation) which do have quite a number of pictures of the airmen that flew and returned (there is a gathering of airmen, including a handle-bar moustached Squadron Leader in White overalls) from that FIRST 4th July 1942 mission. Sadly I do have the magazine but it may be stored somewhere amongst my stuff...am unable to inform the number and name of the magazine now. So perhaps another member do remember this article and complemente the info.

It was a well planned mission, it seems, but it faced some technical difficulties (from what memory brings me from Bowman's article).
