7th September 1944 52FG Loss

Hello,
I have not been able to find the pilot's fate ?

7th September, 1944
52 FG/5 FS
P51B
42-106605
"VF-N"
"Boots"
On a Training flight over Italy.
No search made ?
Presumably because over allied occupied territory ?
Pilot: 2Lt. Harold Nelson TIMMER- O-714526 - MIA.
Enlisted at Lansing, Michigan, 12th December 1942.
Residence Kent County Michigan.
Date of Birth 1922.
Birth Place Panama Canal Zone.
MACR 8355.

Where did the aircraft crash ?
What became of its pilot ?

I have searched ABMC; DPAA; Findagrave; NARA WW2 POW lists and Fold3; Headstone request forms.

Nothing seems to reveal if this airman survived or was killed ?

Equally the crash site of the a/c does not seem to have been found ?

I would have thought that the wreckage would have been recovered along with the remains.

Any info is welcome
Alex

On this site:

http://raf-112-squadron.org/52ndfghonor_roll42_43.html

"Pilot bailed out mechanical failure, Bartolomeo/ S, Italy. Location, Madna, Italy, Point Of Departure, Madna, Italy"

Same Info here:

Search for Timmer on this link: He is (or was) living in Bradenton, FL.

https://www.echonet.org/echo-board-alumni/

"Harold Timmer
Harold is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Force where he successfully completed flight training and served as a single engine fighter pilot. After the war, he attended Purdue University where he received a degree in Horticulture and did advanced work in Agricultural Economics."

Hello Rolland,
Yes, thanks for the three links, I had already seen two of them.
Nothing however tells of the pilots fate except the MACR - as missing ?
I searched as said so am of the opinion that he survived the bail out (don't see it mentioned in the MACR) and the war and must still be alive ?
The ECHO links seems to show this airman. If so it is good that he survived the war and has spent his life helping the less fortunate in the wider world.

Alex, I added a final bit to my first post. He survived the war and may still be alive in Florida.

Odd that the "missing" was not updated or amended in the report, although I did think it odd thatvno search was carried out.
Thanks Rolland.

Thanks Rolland.

Entirely possible that he contacted the base to alert them he was alive and returning soon. No reason to write up a MACR if he gets back before the report is started.
