The attack was by 12 He 111s of I./KG 55; no mention of I./KG 1. Only ZG unit mentioned was I./ZG 2 which provided 18 ac as escort

Thanks Chris

However, according to "Battle of Britain,vol.1",it seems that the I/KG1 was also involved (according to the losses).

In view of the losses of 145° and 601°Sqd.,several claims were made? by I/ZG2, we don't know the claimants?

Records state just I./KG 55 (a Luftflotte 3 unit-KG 1 was Luftflotte 2 so why it would have apparently been operating with another unit & Luftflotte is unusual). I./ZG 2 claimed two Spitfires, no time, names or Staffel. 1./KG 1 did lose the ac flown by Lt Peter Wagner, the body of Hptm Karl-Heinz Berhrens being washed ashore 12 Aug 40 (as were the other crew members) whilst the ac flown by Uffz Fridolin Hogg crashed at Ligny-Tilloy. Targets were not stated. However, Luftflotte 3 says 12 ac from I./KG 55 and no mention of any guests whilst other published sources confirm the small numbers of bombers and fighters. I./KG 55 confirms the loss of 3 ac, 2 of which came down over enemy territory and one was later confirmed as landed at Cherbourg. They also claimed 2 'Spitfires'

Hi Chris

There a some small difference with BOB (combat archive vol.1).

I/KG55 =two crashes over ennemy territory and one landed 80% at VILLACOUBLAY ? not Cherbourg?

I/KG1=crashed Bapaume(Ligny-Tilloy),an Oblt.Grunwald and three airmen killed:Grunwald not the pilot?...Bo.? the pilot is Fridolin Hogg?

Michel

Luftflotte 3 reported the location for the I./KG 55 loss over France the following day & Hogg was the pilot, Grunwald BO & ac commander
