Captured fighter plane

Probably an unusual question this? Not sure if anyone one could help me but here goes....

I recall my late father telling me that during the early part of Battle of Britain an enemy fighter (or possibly a bomber) had been shot down/captured and put on display in the Southend area? My father was with the sea cadets at the time befiore joining up but remembered the aircraft attracting quite a crowd of onlookers.

Would anyone know anything about this? I will check the local historical archives for the area of Southend too.

Many captured German aircraft were displayed throughout the country both for morale purposes and raising funds for such things as the Spitfire Fund. It might be mentioned in the local papers from that time

Thanks for the reply Chris.

Come to think of it my father did mention the Spitfire Fund so I'll look in the local newspaper archives.
