2./LG 1 loss 12 April 1944

Ju 88 A-4, 2./LG 1, L1+HK, Werk Nr. 300 626, lost 12.04.1944, target Nettuno(?)
Does anyone have further informations about the crew´s fate? I´ve got the information that mentioned a/c possibly was shot down by an allied nightfighter. Are there any claims for this date?

Regards, Heuser

What I have is at: http://www.ghostbombers.com/kf4/vdv44.html

If a nightfighter was involved, it was quite likely a Beaufighter VI of No. 600 Squadron RAF which regularly patrolled over Anzio in April 1944. I don't have details of their claims at this period though.

IMHO this is another of those instances where somehow day and month have been transposed. I believe the correct month is December and the year is 1943. This could change who might be the attacker. Jim P. or sombody, please check me on this. I would say that my entry could be incorrect, but the source is the Gen.Qu.6.Abt. which I do not have for 1944.

Best regards,

Hmm, according to the book on LG 1, L1+HK was lost on 12.04.44 in the area of Anzio after an encounter with a night fighter. But, it was W.Nr. 140 252. The crew is listed as Uffz Kurt Becker, FF, MIA. Gefr Heinz Lode, BO, MIA. Ogefr Josef Pitzius, BF, KIA. Ogefr. Johann Friedl, BS, MIA. No other info about the actual downing of the a/c.

If, however, you're looking specifically for W.Nr. 300 626, then, as John said, it went down somewhere east of Sicily, location stated as Quadrat 13 Ost/8516, no reason given, on 21.12.43. This was as part of an attack on a convoy 210sm NW of Bengazi. So, fill your boots.

Gentlemen,
thank you very much for your replies. It was the crew of Uffz. Becker. Today I´ll get in contact with a nephew of Josef Pitzius. He is searching for any information about his missed uncle and the reason for this loss. So any additional data about the involved night fighter would be very interesting for me.
