1.Erg/JG3 on 21.08.1941

Hello
Anybody can confirm if a morning claim from 21.08.1941 for a Spitfire by 1.Erg/JG3 was rejected?
Thanks

Thanks John, so it looks it was confirmed anyway. Some chaos in my papers.

Hi Franek,

Perhaps interesting to know that the victim of Gefr Werner Schumacher, 1.Erg./JG3, was Spitfire P8370 PJ-? 'Oldham', flown by P/O William Roy Bloyce. It was a so called presentation aircraft, although I don't know to who or which 'Oldham' exactly refers.

Hans

Yep, from 130 Squadron. In fact two Spitfires were lost from 130 Squadron that day. P7904 flown by P/O Henry Webster Pickstone was shot down by 20 mm Flak of the 2./MFLA246 from IJmuiden at 09.20 hrs, 5 minutes before P/O Bloyce was shot down.

8 Spitfires of 130 Squadron, together with Spitfires of 66 and 152 Squadron were tasked to escort two waves of each 6 Blenheims of 107 and 114 Squadron to the steelworks of IJmuiden (Hoogovens). Eventually only 7 took off as one of the Spitfires was involved in a taxiing accident.

Hello all,

Does anybody know what happened to the claimer - Gefr Schumacher? What was his career afterwards?

Thanks and best wishes,
Rob

Well, unless I will find that Schumacher's combat report fits circumstances of the loss, I would refrain from drawing any definite conclusions.

Hello Franek,

This might interest you - In Luftgaubefehl Nr 62 (dated 23.8.1941) of Luftgaukommando Holland I found: "Im Luftgaubereich abgeschossene u. abgestürzte Feindflugzeuge in der Zeit v. 17.8.41 - 21.8.41: 21.8.41: 1 Spitfire durch Marine - Artl. u. leichte Flak, Pilot gefangen, 09.20 Uhr; 1 Spitfire durch Gefr Schuhmacher, 1. Erg./J.G. 3, Schicksal der Besatzung unbekannt, 09.25 Uhr."

Wochenlageberichte Wehrmachtsbefehlshaber in den Niederlanden stated that "am 21.8. 1 Spitfire vor Zandvoort über See durch Jäger; Schicksal der Feindbesatzung unbekannt."

I can confirm that what Hans Nauta already stated that 130 Squadron lost two pilots during this raid - F/O Pickstone was shot down by Flak near Ymuiden and taken POW; P/O Bloyce was shot down by German fighters west of Dutch Coast - Bloyce is still mia.

Best wishes,
Rob

Hi

The 1.Erg./JG 3 came in Januar 1942 to the III./JG 5 as 7.Staffel. Werner Schumacher was one of the best Pilots of the 7.Staffel with 30 claims. He became prisoner at the 08.08.1942, and died 1943 in the prison Podma.

Greetings Christian
