Stab II/KG27, 12.08.1940
 

Hi,

On 12th August 1940, there was the following loss:
Stab II/KG27.
Heinkel He111H ( ). Night sortie to Bristol Docks. Shot down by RAF night fighter and crashed at Sturminster Marshall, near Wimborne, Dorset, 12.20am. Oberfw. Herbert Frey (FF), Major Friedrich-Karl Schlichting (B, Gruppe Kommandeur), Major Hans-Jurgen Brehmer (B, Gruppe Adjutant), Oberfw. Günther LöhnIng (Bf) and Oberfw. Willi Bendrich (Bm) all bailed-out and captured. Aircraft 1G+AC a write-off.

Can anyone tell me what type and which Squadron the RAF night fighter came from?

Time of crash was 0020m hrs on 12 Aug 40 and the crew said Defiant/Hurricane/Beaufighter, You can discount Beaufighter, no Defiants operating in the west as far as I am aware but 87 Sqn did fly night patrols but no claims were logged that night
