Finnish encounters with I-16bis

One of the Finnish pilots claimed that he met I-16bis in the air and shot it down (I saw this interview on www.virtualpilots.fi). What plane did he mean? I-180 (which is drawn as I-16bis there), as I know, never took part in fights.

Re: Finnish encounters with I-16bis

Hello!

My guess is I-16 with M-62 engine (as opposed to M-25). I think the "BIS" stemmed from performance and not from outlook. Older Ishaks (M-25) were still used in combat during the Winter War (1939-40). Not so during Continuation War (1941-44)?

Regards,
Kari
