Operation Jubilee Boston III's
I'm trying to indentify the smoke mission Boston's during the Dieppe raid. I've been through the ORB's, but these have a number of errors and gaps. So far I've got the following;
88 Sqn: Z2217 RH-G ?? RH-P (variously reported as AL736, but this is almost cetainly a 226 Sqn aircraft) 107 Sqn: AL708 OM-J AL715 OM-M 226 Sqn: Z2295 MQ-A -Cat Ac damage Z2281 MQ-B Z2264 MQ-F -Cat B damage Z2258 MQ-H AL743 MQ-K AL680 MQ-L -Lost AL708 MQ-M -Cat Ac damage AL736 MQ-P -Lost AL704 MQ-W -Written off Z2234 MQ-X AL688 MQ-Y -Cat B damage AL710 MQ-Z -Cat B damage, but written off AL278 MQ-Cat B damage ?? MQ-G Plus one more 226 squadron aircraft I've yet to identify. I'm not 100% sure about the 107 Squadron aircraft so any new information/corrections would be gratefully received. Regards Steve Pegge |

Re: Operation Jubilee Boston III's
Phil,
Thanks for that. Got this loss (the aircraft was probably shot down by Ofw Wurmheller, for his first of the day, though he claimed a 'Blenheim'), plus those suffered by the Blenhiem's of 13 and 614 Squadron. The ORB's and other reports cover the bombing operations in detail, but the Boston smoke operations by 226 squadron (reinforced by two aircraft from 88 and 107 squadrons) is a bit patchy. Steve |
