Hi

This aircraft was built as version E-4 in 1940 at the Wiener Neustädter Flugzeugwerk, more precisely, I do not have it.

best wishes

Re: Manufacture date of Bf109 E7

Hello Gilles,

the WNr. 5145 was built as version E-3.
In the factory document „Übersichtsliste der Änderungsanweisungen“ from 1 April 1943 the following WNF built Bf 109 E are listed:
E-3 5001–5259
E-4 5260-5300/5326-5400/5559-5600/5791-5823/5891-5894/5896-5919
E-7 5895/5920-5985/6501-6523.

GC:
W.Nr. 5145, CC+PP, was originally completed by WNF as a E-3 in August 1940. But, like other Emils of this period, it was quickly upgraded to E-4 standards and sometime later, probably early 1941, it was further upgraded to become an E-7. Each of these upgrades involved rather simple changes to the airframe with the exception of its last modification. This change called for some modification to the fuel delivery system allowing the a/c to carry a 300 ltr. drop tank, or alternatively, an under fuselage bomb load.

Oh ... You too ?
...

Btw, all the batch (almost all the batch) was pictured in the snow during the winter 1939-1940; don't you think August 1940 is quite late when first losses have been registered during May ??? No ?
...
Well, I say that but ... ;)

Franck.

And this very Messerschmitt Bf 109 E7, WNr. 5145, with the fuselage marking "5" red, belonging 2/ JG101 crashed on 11 November 1943, in the Pyrénées.

Its pilot, Kurt Riemer, is buried at the cemetery of Berneuil en Charente, grave N°301.

The remains of this aircraft were discovered recently in the Pyrnenees moutains and are exhibited in Toulouse museum: Aeroscopia.

If anyone has an idea on how contact the family of Kurt Riemer... I take it !

Gogh: Sorry for the stkz typing error. Just a case of haste makes waste. You are, of course, correct: it was CA+PP.

Re: Manufacture date of Bf109 E7

Hi Hal,
to your post #4:
The last Bf 109 E-3 for the Luftwaffe was delivered in June 1940 (reference in JFV Vol. 1 to C-Amt program from 1 October 1940).
According to the JFV Vol. 2 and 3 the first known losses/damages of WNF built Bf 109 E-3 were
WNr. 5185 II./JG 51 75% on 21 April 1940
WNr. 5156 6./JG 51 70% on 22 April 1940
WNr. 5088 6./JG 51 10% on 12 May 1940
WNr. 5010 Stab II./JG 53 5% on 20 May 1940.
So the WNr. 5145 was completed long before August 1940.
In the Gen.Qu. loss returns is listed a 10% taxying damage of the Bf 109 E-4 WNr. 5145 (Erg.St./JG 2) on 21 October 1941 at the airfield Cazeau. The upgrade of this plane to E-7 standard was certainly not early 1941.
