Hungarian Me110's of Ausb.Kdo.ABK-Z

Last year I mailed Barry Rosch of Luftwaffe Verband some information on Hungarian Me110’s. It never got into the magazine because it ceased to exist.
I’m posting it here for those who want to know.

Dennis

In LV 15, page 18,LV 16, page 8 and LV 17, page 12 a photograph of Hungarian Me110’s is discussed.

While I was goint through some RAF documents from the PRO I found the following:

On July 21th, 1945, the British armed forces moved into a part of Austria that had been previously under Soviet ocupation. On the Airfield of Zeltweg a number of Me110’s were found, the C and D types previously belonged to Ausb.Kdo.ABK-Z
Me110C-4 TD+GZ 3624
Me110C-4 CF+NF 3063
Me110C-7 BB+UN 3512
Me110D-3 CC+MO
Me110E-2 KB+XX 4397
Me110E-2/U4 SB+IN 3781
Me110G-2 2N+IN 120032

The D-3 was found on the airbase itself, the C models were found in a wood 2 miles from the base.

Dennis,

Were there any Hungarian-marked warplanes found on Zeltweg a/f?

Stig,

In Hungary, there was a significant Me 210 production, and a lot of pilots/full units were re-trained to the Me 210. The first grade for this re-training was the mentioned Bf 110 school, which stationed at Budapest-Ferihegy. Ihave some nice, unpublished pictures and interesting remembrances as well about this unit.

Hi Dennis,

My Grandfather also did the ABK-Z from November 1943 to 02 Februar 1944 in Budapest-Ferihegy airport.
Probably on the Bf110 list one of he flew. He told me the German Bf110 plane had a gray colour.
In the WWII for the Hungarian fighter, zerstörer pilots didn't write any nummer or stammkennzeichen on they loogbook.
If you are corrius about his training flying I can send for you copys from his loogbook (fliegerbuch).

Sincerely, Balazs

OK Thanks
But what I want to know is if this is to be classified as a Hungarian Unit or a German one!
If Hungarian, why did they use German markings?
If German, is there any other name for it? Ausbildungskommando Z doesn't sound very ingenius.... :)

Cheers
Stig

Stig,

It was called only as Ausblidungskommando Zerstörer (Ungarn) and was led by Oberleutnant Weirich.

Balázs,

few Hungarian pilot had German Flugbücher as well (these are amazing sources with codes, targets, etc).
