P-47 Serial 44-33125
 

Hello,

Is anything known about P-47 Serial 44-33125 of 393rd Fighter Squadron? It apparently made a belly landing. I only found a reference that it was sold to the Iranian Air Force in 1949, but I am interested in its wartime history. In particular where and when the belly landing happened.

On April 5, 1945. Lt. Howard E. Cain of the 393rd Fighter Squadron bellied-in inside allied lines (I don't have exact location). I believe he was in 8L-W 44-33125, but am not 100% certain. Perhaps someone else will have further information.

Thank you very much for this information. 44-33125 was indeed coded 8L-W (based on a photo that is not owned by me and that I can't show).

It would be very helpful to know roughly where he went down, but I understand this may be difficult.

Is it know what the mission of 5 April was? That may give a clue about where the plane made the belly landing.

Do not know about mission on 5 April 1945, but FG was active over Central Germany at that time.
