French P-47 puzzle - painting scheme
Would someone please help me establish correct painting scheme of French GC III/3 'Ardennes' Thunderbolts? Apparently, most of the books got it wrong
I'm attaching some variations of the basic scheme: http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/1...zzle6dj.th.jpg My questions are: Was the wing band yellow, black&white or none? Or were there varitations within the unit? Were the fuselage bands in form of three white thin stripes on green camouflage or were they black&white bands? Was there an anti-glare stripe in front of the cockpit? Thank you in advance! |
Re: French P-47 puzzle - painting scheme
Hi,
According to my pictures, all taken beginning of 1945, i could find the following informations : No doubt, wings bands were black and white. (2 black bands for 3 white bands). For anti glare stripe, it depends of the plane. Some had it, some not. For exemple, "white 74" had one but only on the nose cowling, (nothing just in front of the cokpit). # 44-19687 hadn't any anti galre stripe ... Good luck ! Stéphane Muret |
