Help identifying a crash
 

Hi All,

a man told that a US plane crashed close to his home during WW 2. He was just a boy. The only memory he has, that he found and looked beside the wreckage for yellow boxes made of sheet with a sort of candies (sweets) in.

Does anybody know which boxes the man is referring to?
Which emergency rations did a pilot have? The man remembers there was only one Pilot, KIA.
The confirmation of such boxes would be the first step approaching to a forgotten crash. Digging for debris is not possible at the moment.

Possibly Charms candy. Often done up in a yellow package (with added vitamin C).

Charms were probably also available from the PX or issued just as packaged candy (i.e. not in the tins).

Dear RSwank,

many thx for your reply and these helpful hints/links.
It is no longer self evident finding an expert who knew about the former candy boxes or packages.
Now I am able to show these pictures to my old friend, who was a child in WWII, highly pleased to find these candies during poor times for children.

My witness does not live close to me ( he is living between Meran and Bozen),
so first I will send the examples on fotos by snail mail to him.
Keep you informed if he can recognize the yellow candy package.
Very interesting are the you tube films. Would like to find such a closed tin....

Some aircraft had emergency ration packs like the one in the photo.
