AK 39 compass from crash site
3 Attachment(s)
I have just acquired a AK39 compass that was recovered from a Luftwaffe crash site in 1940. I'm trying to find any possible candidates the best one so far is bf110 w/nr 2146 U8+CL 6th September 1940 Cannons Hill Coulsdon. I have a scrap of paper stating that it came down close to Redhill Surrey. Any other candidates out there.

Re: AK 39 compass from crash site
I would say for this to come from a crash if unlikely as the condition is too good. More likely liberated from a crewman but the problem if quite a number crashed or baled out in that area

Re: AK 39 compass from crash site
If you look at the first picture you will see the dial is bent back as if it has had a hard jolt, the compass doesn't work. Apart from that it's in great condition

Here's a copy of the card that came with the compass it is very faded I have adjusted the contrast to make it more legible. I am trying find a resource where I could date the compass from the werk nr.: 14,986 which quite a low number from the examples I have seen so far.

Re: AK 39 compass from crash site
You will have no chance in dating from the Wk Nr-the chance of any such records being kept will be slimmer than slim. For example, mine is 97465 and no clues as to date
