JU88 4D + DM Stab II KG/30 16/10/40
I have been through the threads here that refer to the above but am trying to whittle down the reason for the loss. Every reference that I have found states 'reason unknown'. Given the other losses in this raid from the unit has anyone any evidence or even an informed guess as to the reason? As for the aircraft itself, can anyone help with the camouflage pattern? Would it have been standard or would any kind of night scheme be in place at this time given it was still reasonably light? Any further info on this incident would be appreciated especially any photographs of the crew. Haupt. Erich Hass, Feldwebel Gunther Suhr, Feldwebel Josef Kessels and Krgs.Ber. Anton Doppelfeld.
. Thank you |

Hello,
the Gen.Qu. loss returns about the Kriegsberichter/war correspondent Anton Doppelfeld from 18 and 22 Oct 1940 were completed on 6 Sep 1941(!). He belonged to the Lw./Kr.Ber.Kp. 1, his rank was Gefreiter. Regards Leo |

Thank you Matti as always.
I have seen in one reference a Werke No. Of 317 quoted, could the one you mention be the originals replacement? |

Thank you Leo, another part of the puzzle. There looks to have been something of a backlog! |
Re: JU88 4D + DM Stab II KG/30 16/10/40
Wk Nr was 317 so not sure what you mean by 'originals replacement'. Remember Wk Nrs and variant were unique, fuselage codes were not. K Report makes no mention of camo and photos show distintegrated wreckage. Mindful it crashed in daylight, it is unlikely it would have been camouflaged for night ops

Re: JU88 4D + DM Stab II KG/30 16/10/40
Chris, thank you for that, perhaps I worded it wrongly. I meant that although it carried the same code as the previous aircraft, the Wrk. No. would have been different from the one Matti mentions. Thats what you just said though.:)
Thanks for the camo info, just aware that night raids were happening and wondered if anyone had a definitive answer. Do you have any info on any of the crew or could you please point me in the right direction? Grateful for your reply as always. Best wishes Ivor |
