Question about the FockeWulf series
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. First time poster, long-time reader.
I have a question about the FW190 Wurger - what were her strengths and weaknesses? A-3, A-4, A-5, A-8 are the main ones I'm interested in. How did they handle, etc. I'm curious, as my husband and I were discussing it this morning over kaffe - comparing the flight files in CFS3 and IL-2, and the actual planes themselves. Many thanks in advance, Cori von Hauer-Dowling |
Re: Question about the FockeWulf series
Baroness,
Take a look at this site. http://www.fourthfightergroup.com/eagles/spittest.html Although primarily dedicated to all marques of Spitfire, there is information regarding the FW 190 and the Bf 109. http://www.spitfireperformance.com/f...190d9test.html I had the great pleasure of speaking to Eric "Winkle" Brown, the test pilot, at Duxford this year. He has flown 487 different types, not counting sub-types. In other words, although he flew many different marques of Spitfire, this is counted as only one type. Because he spoke German, he was asked to fly and evaluate many German types and has written a book entitled "Wings of the Luftwaffe", ISBN 1-85310-413-2 When I asked him about the 190, his face lit up and he said that the 190D was the best fighter of the war with the Spit Mk.XIV a very close second and the P-51 a distant third. Although many factors must be considered when naming "Best Fighter", his position is that, at the moment of engagment, if he had a choice, he'd rather be in a Dora. You might also like to try this page http://www.odyssey.dircon.co.uk/Spitfire14v190.htm These reports are excerpts from the reports created by the Air Fighting Development Unit at Duxford. Hope these help. Do you fly online? If so, what is your callsign and which server do you fly on? Cheers, T-6 |
Re: Question about the FockeWulf series
As far as your cousin Michael is concerned, I can find him flying with 1./JG76 and 4./JG54. Try these links:
http://math.fce.vutbr.cz/safarik/ACE...h.campaign.pdf This one has five claims during the Battle of France, including two in one engagement on 06.06.40 http://math.fce.vutbr.cz/safarik/ACE...of.britain.pdf There are two claims here while he was with 4./JG54, a Blenheim and a Spitfire. http://math.fce.vutbr.cz/safarik/ACE...y-ww2-1940.pdf This one lists all seven. Hope this helps, T-6 |
Re: Question about the FockeWulf series
Thanks so much, Flyinmick, for that information about my cousin. I've been trying to find his aircraft profile, because my husband, Pete "LuftwaffeOberst" Dowling is making a 1:6 scale FockeWulf RC aircraft, and wants to paint it in his colors.
It's so difficult to find things on him, as he wasn't apparently a popular fellow. Thanks for the links too for the Wurger. I know the Dora was a beast in the air, but I always wanted to know what the Wurger could do, and why Galland was such a fan of it back then. Yep, I usually fly online as JKG_32_Baroness or Jasta_11_Karena. CFS3 and CFS2 mainly. Not been online much since my stick conked out and I'm sans rudder pedals. Hard to make those nice sharp turns in my Fokker Dreidecker. *evil grin* |
