Dutch Meteor Collision 10.07.52 at Baarn, Netherlands
 

2 aircraft part of 8 from Leeuwarden to Soesterberg collided at Baarn, Netherlands

They were being flown by 2 Sgt 22 year old Pilots: Cornelis 'Kees' Groenendijk
and Jan de Nijs

The aircraft were Gloster Meteor F.8 I-135 and I-136

de Nijs left wing hit the tail of Groenendijk aircraft and this detached.


Both pilot ejected

Can anyone tell me what Sqn they were in ? and which pilot was flying which aircraft ? This maybe could be determined if it could be established what one lost its tail

Meteors were of 327 Squadron, Soesterberg Airbase.


There is a local story here https://gaanenbeleven.nl/de-gloster-...an-baarn-1952/ (date is incorrectly put in October 1952...) whereby Groenendijk is in "7E-4" (I-135) and De Nijs in "7E-3".

In short: Meteors were flying 3 x 3. When Soesterberg came in sight the formation leader ordered to go fly in line. When so doing I-135 and I-136 hit each other.
