beaufighter and french flag over arc de triomph

how exactly did A.K. Gatward and Sergeant G. Fern drop that flag on the arc de triomph? did they fly low over it and dropped it from some container?

any ideas?

On page 58 of Beaufighter Squadrons in Focus by Simon Parry will give you an idea as to what took place.
Includes Bristol's artwork of the event and photo's of the a/c and Gatward.
