Pls help identify P-47 units and ordnance
Can anyone identify? What do these machines carry under their wings and to whom they belonged? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: Pls help identify P-47 units and ordnance
Hi ,
From the looks of them I would suggest some kind of incendiary bomb. Reason being that I have seen a simular picture of this type in the Kookaburra book on the P38 lightning text says Experimental installation of incendiary bomb. Alex |
Re: Pls help identify P-47 units and ordnance
Hi Alex and thank you for the hint!
Another puzzle: http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/8...zzleij1.th.jpg The fuselage code is weird - is this supposed to be UN-M? |
Re: Pls help identify P-47 units and ordnance
Hi Lagarto,
Not sure about this but the 8th AAF's 315th TC Group, 34th TC Squadron used the code "NM". Could be a P47 attached to that Squadron, for communications and formating purposes I beleive. Pitty cannot see serial number. Alex |

Also note that there's no insignia on the upper port wing. And that sheen...
Is this even a wartime photo? What's the source of the image? Fade to Black... |
Re: Pls help identify P-47 units and ordnance
Hi Steve, the photo was purchased for my forthcoming book from one of the American aviation museums; unfortunately, most photos are not captioned and in some cases (see above) I just got stuck.
As for the missing serial number it looks like it was censored or edited for some reason. |
