GB 1/22 "Maroc" in the MTO May 1944
Does anyone know of any B-26s lost by this unit on 23 May 1944 (or a day or two either side of that date)?

Source = "Les Marauders français" by Patrick Ehrhardt (2001 éditions du polygone).
In may this group was based in Villacidro (Sardaigne) No mission between the 15 and 24 may (the 23 may the weather was to bad to make mission over Italia). The 24 mai 1944, the GB 1/22 "Maroc" made a bombing mission Nord of Balsorano with 12 planes (+2 spare). No plane where shot down but three of the french GB 1/22 Marauders, hit by the Flack where forced to land at Napoli-Pomigliano. |

And according to a book by Daniel Decot "Pilotes français sur l'Italie", there was no accident either for this unit between the 21 and 25 May.
French B-26 flew missions on the 24th and 25th without aircraft losses but in both cases some B-26 didn't return to base after the raid, either because they were damaged by Flak or for another reason (3 on the 24th and 2 on the 25th), but they landed in Allied bases in Italy (rather thab coming back to Sardinia) and none was lost. |

Thank you everybody for your answers.
It seems the Germans claimed aircraft that weren't even flying that day! The USAAF lost no B-26s either although I still have to check the South African Marauder squadrons. |
