5(F)./122 - loss of 24 August 1940
According to this site (the owner is a member of this Board) http://www.luftwaffedata.co.uk/wiki/...._122_Aug_1940
..on the 24th August, 5(F)./122 lost a Junkers 88 A (which model)? on a photographic or reconaissance mission, near the Kent Coast. It was shot down by 501 Squadron Hurricanes. Is there any information about the werknummer, type of Ju 88 A and codes of this particular machine? Did it crash over the sea or over land, since some of the crew were later buried in England? Thanks A. |

Re: 5(F)./122 - loss of 24 August 1940
I thought that maybe the werknummer would appear somewhere...the Germans are so methodics and the LW as well with their records.
Thank you Gentlemen, for the kind help anyway. A. |
Re: 5(F)./122 - loss of 24 August 1940
Sorry Adriano,
Unfortunately, I have nothing further to add regarding the aircraft or markings. Losses for 5(F)./122 during Aug - Oct 1940 included A-1s, an A-6 and an A-5. However, regarding the crew (this from Matti Salonen) Lt Meinulf Hellermann - recorded as buried "Bourdon/Frankreich, Block 25, Reihe 19, Grab 713" There is a note against Uffz Franz Schmidtler to indicate that he was declared dead. |
