Waht´s the purpose of this device?

From several photos I got for the Fw 58 book in a few of them there is this retangular equipment. Is it used for navigation or a kind of calculator?
Thanks in advance,

Please excuse in pushing to top an old question but my hope other members where out and could not see it. It looks this equipment was rarely seen since one veteran told me never saw this.
Hugs,

Good one:p Peter Spoden told me this too... On this photo the pilot is Johannes Steinhof in Italy.

I would say it looks like an old fashioned box of cigaretes, but it does not make much sense for me to keep them this way.

No Franek, as I wrote, I have other photos with other pilots using this same device. On the photos it has a bright surface so I would risk a glazed equipment but for what? Still belive any connection with navigation.

Well, any other thing that comes to my mind is a 'calculator' or simply a photo print with necessary data or curve. I doubt it would be anything related to navigation as it would have been seen in other aicraft. Perhaps it is a fuel consumption diagram or even a diagram of fuel system if it was particularly complicated on the type. I have seen such diagrams for RAF aircraft.
