Question about loss of KG 26 aircraft

Hi everyone,

My question is about the loss of an aircraft from 7./K.G.26 on 06.08.1941 and the the term "WNr. Folgt aml" work number following aml, what does "aml" refer to ?

06.08.1941 7./K.G.26 F Heinkel He 111 H-5 WNr. folgt aml

Thanks in advance

Hello oquaig,

in the Gen.Qu. loss return instead of the Werknummer is listed "folgt" without any addition. In what document have you found the abbreviation aml?

Leo

Hi Leo,

I found this in the Gen.Qu. loss return list. This is what is written: " 06.08.1941 7./K.G.26 F Heinkel He 111 H-5 WNr. folgt aml". I was wondering if "aml" was an abbreviation for something.

Thanks

Re: Question about loss of KG 26 aircraft

Hi oquaig,

this loss is documented in the Gen.Qu. loss return from 25 Sep 1941 item 42. This document was made out in 21 Ausfertigungen/copies.
I know two versions:
version IWM = Vorentwurf/preliminary draft and version BA Freiburg = 17. Ausfertigung/copy no. 17. In both versions the addition "aml" is missing.
What is your version?

Leo

Hi Leo,

I don't know which version this is from and I find it strange that the dates differ. I also have come to believe that III./K.G. 26 was flying the H6 model at this point in time. It makes me want to disregard the entry altogether.

Thanks again

Re: Question about loss of KG 26 aircraft

Hello,
This aircraft is truly He-111H-5. Much is known about this aircraft, but apart from its W.Nr. For the Soviet side, this is to some extent a "legendary plane." The time (11.30 p.m. 06/08/1941) and the place where it was attacked (Mansurovo) and the place of the fall (500 m from Stepygino) are known, the fate of the crew (four died immediately and the pilot died in the prisoner camp from tuberculosis), you can even see its debris in the museum. It is possible that Stammkennzeichen had the form "... + XX" - the photographs of 1941 show traces of painting, but after 20 years, which the tail lay in the open air, the paint fell off and large "XX" silver paint became visible.

Kirill

Thank you Kirill,

Now I understand why this was a "legendary plane." A famous taran.

Best wishes
