Screamers

What was a screamer and when were they used ? I have a group order for 8 Group with the following:

'All aircraft carrying 1000 and 500 GP bombs will fit at least one bomb with 2 screamers'

From the Merriam-Webster dictionary: "Definition of screamer bomb
: a bomb that has an attachment emitting a penetrating whistle as the bomb falls and that is used to terrify the enemy"
