Unknown Stuka plain
Hi,
This Photo is offered by an ebay auction, a stuka plane with a giraffe emblem, allegedly at Crete. Question: unit? regards Byron . |
Re: Unknown Stuka plain
Byron,
This would be 6./StG 1 aircraft. The Staffel apparently had a flair for unusual, so it paid various exotic animals on the Stukas' engine cowling. Regards, Sinisa |

It would be great to find this emblem coloured.

Re: Unknown Stuka plain
On page 120 of Luftwaffe Emblems by Barry Ketley, there is this entry: "During 1942 the aircraft carried instead individual 'heavy' animal insignias, such as rhinos and hippos, on the cowlings." The official emblem was "A devil seated on a diving bomb, carrying a torch. Inherited from 9./St.G 51 in July 1940."
None of the animal emblems are shown. |
