Rudi, what were the date and the unit? It may be possible to find from other sources what was being bombed on that day.

It's from a KG 54 Leistungsbuch. The date was Apr 7th 1943. Place is most likely Tunisia.

According to Siegfried Radtke's KG 54 history, on the night of 7 April, 12 Ju 88 of I./KG 54 took off from Catania for a dawn attack on British troops »an der Akarit-Front«. In that case, you're probably looking for targets south of Akarit: there are several named settlements there if you look at Google Maps. I'd imagine that the main British advance would have been up the coastal road (now Highway P1).

Rudi,

You may already be aware of the following -

According to De Zeng and Stankey in "Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe v1"
I./KG 54 was attacking British troop concentrations around Akarit, Tunisia on this date following the Battle of Wadi Akarit on 6th April 1943.

The Germans and their allies were in full retreat.

II./KG 54 attacked troops on the Akarit front on 7th April and British troops north of Akarit on 8th April.

Rudi,

Here are some links to a number of contemporary British and US maps of Tunisia which may help.

The Index page

Gabes - O. El Arakit is at the top left.

Mehamia - the map to the west.

La Skhirra - to the north.

Good luck.
