20th Combat Bombardment Wing

Hello,
Am looking at the P-47 Formation Monitor's of the 20 CBW , 93rd BG, 446 the BG, 448th BG and the 489th BG's .
So far have only been able to find three a/c serial numbers. There must have been more.
Has anyone found more ?
PM me if you would rather .

Thanks
Alex

Alex,

Don't know which P-47s you've found.

This is my little contribution: 41-6575 with 446th BG and 41-6380 with 448th BG.

Regards,
Leendert

Hello,
Thank you both, yes I have those, but Marc is your 41-6360 a typo error for 41-6380 ?
Thank you both for your response.

Re: 20th Combat Bombardment Wing

hello alex,

no typo ... I wrote 41-4360, but I lost the source!?

this is from joe baugher‘s page:

Quote:

41-6380

(MSN 486) 82nd FS [MX-G], 78th FG, 8th AF, Duxford, Station 357; 'Ranny; Mark II" [named for pilot’s wife]; 351st FS, 353rd Fighter Training Group,
8th AF, Metfield, Station 366; Accident 27Jan44 taxying at East Wrentham; 448th Bomb Group, 8th AF, Seething, Station 146; Artwork - shark's mouth; Used as a group monitor aircraft.
hmh, ... maybe I should search on this site?

Re: 20th Combat Bombardment Wing

Marc, if you mean 41-6360 rather than 41-4360 (which was not a P-47C), then 41-6360 was salvaged due to battle damage in November 1943 whilst still with 4th FG.
Joe's page is correct for 41-6380.

Re: 20th Combat Bombardment Wing

Hello Peter,
Thanks for the info. Is there any chance that you may know of any P47's from either the 5th ERS or 56th FG that may have been loaned or handed over to the BG's based at Halesworth ?
Thanks again,
Alex

Re: 20th Combat Bombardment Wing

For the 5ERS then no. They were all pretty much war-weary classified when 5ERS received them. There were a couple or so that went back to P-51 equipped fighter groups for transition training in 1945 where there might be possible deployment to Japan sector but certainly none to Halesworth BGs especially as they were stationed there at one time as well.
The 56th FG provided many hacks but I do not have details of any that went to the Halesworth BGs from Boxted.
