28 Nov 40-ZG 26

Between 1430 and 1545 hrs on the above date, 12 Bf 110s from ZG 26 escorted by 31 Bf 109s from JG 2 and II/JG 77 carried out an offensive sweep in the Southampton area. Has anyone any idea what staffel/gruppe from ZG 26 or has a flugbuch entry from one of the Bf 110 participants?

Chris,

According to the flugbuch of Oberlt MATTHES, 7./ZG26 operated from Denain twice that day as follows:

Bombenwurfen 14.35 - 15.55 & (again) 16.20 - 17.05

No details as to target on either sortie unfortunately.

Thanks Peter. This matches with the Luftflotte 3 report and logbooks I have from JG 2 pilots. It would appear that the first raid was thwarted by RAF fighters (213, 152 and 602 Sqns) so they tried again (landing at 1545 hrs or thereabouts and taking off 45 minutes later)
