Re: Misc Do 217 St Kap

6.(F)/123 was Hptm. Heinz de Wilde.

Source:
CX/MSS/T253/5
No. 1204, from De Wilde to Nazi Political Commissar £ NSFO £ on 21/7:
1) Staffel morale good, indignation at the murderous attack.
2) Personnel newly allotted from the homeland during the last few days is being watched.
3) At 1000/21/7 instruction was given by Staffelkapitän.
NOTE: Above almost surely to Recce Group 123. Hptm. De Wilde signs for 6.(F)/123, (R247(C),24). 6.(F)/123 at Cormeilles on 3/7, (R247(C),19).

Sven, I'm not sure about this. He might only have had the post for a few days, if at all. As far as I know, 4.(F)/5 formed in May 1944 but on 17 May Rastedter was posted to the Luftwaffe Signals School organisation. Source:
CX/MSS/T189/84

Dated 17/5:

In accordance with German Air Ministry, LP 4 (Roman) II’s No. 1694 of 16/5/44, w.i.e.

Obltn. Rastedter, Siegfried, of Listening and Jamming Staffel 2, is transferred to the sphere of command of Chief Commander of GAF Signals Schools, as replacement for Obltn. Fallinger (last line illegible).

NOTE: 1) Listening and Jamming Staffel 2, formerly Special Detachment Rastedter, operates He 111 from Bordeaux. No operations by the unit reported by source since 17/4 (R158(C),11).

Re: Misc Do 217 St Kap

Accordingly Robert, you know all about 4/FAG 5 so who is Kunz?

Eduardo: "The new Staffel 4/FAGr .5 was commanded by a Hauptmann Kunz acccording to Robert Forsyth."
Don't blame Robert! He wrote the other 309 pages of "Shadow over the Atlantic" but I contributed the 3 pages where Kunz is mentioned.
Chris: "you know all about 4/FAG 5 so who is Kunz?"
I write the stuff but I don't always remember it! Anyway, this is the ULTRA that I got the name from:
CX/MSS/T248/80 XL2483

((1)) From 4 UBERU ((C% F)) 5 to ((C% F)) 123, Adjutant stamped 1000/17/7:

Disbanding of Staffel and handing over of equipment will be concluded at the end of this week. Immediately afterwards transfer of heavy equipment to 6.(F)/123. Transport space can be made available by Field HQ Nantes. In order to transfer the Staffel vehicles (small lorries, medium cars, heavy motorcycles). Is it permissible to break into mobilisation stocks £Mobbestand£ of 400 litres “O” fuel?

Workshop repairs on Do 217, marking 9V+AM, not yet finished. Completion during the course of the week.

Ferrying over of Ju 188, marking 9V+EM, from Werneuchen probably on 19/7 or 20/7 according to report of pilot.

For the sake of convenience and owing to the difficult transport situation, can Hptm. Kunz report to Kommandeur after the transfer has been completed? Up till now 54 officers and men have been despatched to 6.(F)/123.

((2)) Note dated 17/7 signed Adjutant.

Ref.: Your note of 1000/17/7.

1) Transfer by rail. transport.

2) Staffelkapitän will report to the Kommandeur after handing over.

NOTES:

1) Source almost sure that ((2)) is a reply to ((1))

2) 4./FAGr. 5 first reported by source on 21/5, subordinated to Luftgau XI (T191/138).

On 4/6 it received orders from Fliegerkorps X. Its operations were to be synchronised with those of 3.(F)/123 (T207/106). Its equipment on 10/7 was 4 aircraft, 1 each of Ju 88, He 111, Ju 188, Do 217 (R242(C),13). On 14/7 it had the last two only (R246(C),17). No location has been reported but on 14/7 1 aircraft was destroyed Varades (T243/75). T247/101 of 11/7 suggested it was probably going to Bordeaux-Mérignac.

3) This makes it clear that the 4. ((FAG)) reported moving in T245/170 was indeed 4./FAGr. 5 and not 4.(F)/123, as assumed.
I don't know any more about him and the DeZeng/Stankey lists don't seem to either.

Re: Misc Do 217 St Kap

By a process of elimination, Nick and myself think it is Hptm Alfred Kunz

Re: Misc Do 217 St Kap

Nick and Chris are right. Oberleutnant Rastedter was sentenced to 3 month imprisonment on the 29. march 1944 minus one month allready served. He was disobeying direct orders and miss used his position.
