Help with possible Ju87D crash Hungary

The bare-headed Hungarian Cavalry officer in the middle of the picture is my Grandfather and I’ve had this photo since he died, always wondered what it was and where it was taken! I posted the picture up on a Facebook page I frequent and the consensus was that it was a Ju87D, likely number T6+NR from Stg2, wr 140288 crashed 30km W of Budapest 24 Dec 44.

However, that was the start of the siege of a Budapest and they appear to be wearing summer uniforms and lightly armed, if at all. I can’t imagine this is the frontline in Dec 44. It looks the wr might be in the region of x767x so is there anyone more eagle eyed who can help identify this at all? Thank you!

If you enlarge the photo and rotate it 180 degrees, you can clearly see the code T6+NR. "T6" is in small black letters and "NR" in large white letters. Therefore your assumption is correct:

1944-12-24, 7./SG 2, Ju 87 D-5, 140288, T6+NR, 3 km von Ujtele, Felsögalla
Flugzeugführer Uffz Kijas, Josef, +
Bordfunker Uffz Kawalski, Werner, +
Luftkampf mit La-5 der 31 IAP (St.-Lt. Mihail Savtsenko). Bruch 100 %. Flugzeugführer mit Fallschirm abgesprungen.

Of course "NR" could be a part of SKZ that peeks under the paint, but i doubt that.

Wow that’s amazing but begs the question what they are doing there unarmed at the height of the siege? Unless it was taken in the spring on the retreat north!

Without knowing any date, it is impossible to know what is going on or when the photo was taken.

As I see it, the photo could have been taken post war and a group of people have been sent to clear the place from the wreckage.

This took place all over Europe, which was completely littered with wrecks.
Many scrap dealers made a fortune....at least one of them a Swedish citizen

All fair points but Grandad was in a POW and subsequently DP camp in Carinthia, Austria from 1945-8. He did try to get back to Hungary after the war and had a narrow escape back into Austria. I assume it is either a mild winter day or this was taken spring 45 on the retreat north to surrender.

According to the green trees in the background, it certainly wasn't photographed in December. In my opinion: May-June

Very interesting! His ID card is stamped at a concentration point in June 1945, so conceivable I guess that this is post war. But the soldier at the forefront has his ammo pouches on still. I can’t imagine he would have kept them in captivity.
