Photo Album FFA 40

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a nice photo album from a member of FFA 40 at:

Edit as a number of th training aircraft appear to come from FEA 10, I thought I'd also provide this link, which has a few interesting photos:

Very nice Clint

Many interesting photos, but a bit puzzled by FEA 10.
Surely that was a replacement unit, not a training unit as such. Or have I missed something with regard to them?
Did they also funcion as some sort of OCU?

Cheers
Stig

Hello Stig,

Flieger Ersatz Abteilung. My take on this, granted Ersatz literally translates as replacement into English (and likewise Swedish?), but all of these FEA were in fact training schools. I guess you could say the item that was being replaced were the lost pilots and observers from the operational units. The company owned Flying Schools we touched upon in the AEG B.I thread also had designations as FEAs.

Although later on in the war there were flying schools for specific functions for example the Flieger Beobachterschulen or the Schiessschule throughout the war FEAs whether company run or Army run were the standard training units. That at least is how I've understood matters. If you , or another board member has a different take on this, I 'm certainly willing to learn.

Clint

Clint

I tried to find something useful on the internet and it seems they functioned as both training and replacement units.

Well, one learns something new every day.... :)

Hi Stig,

Yep. This from frontflieger.de sums it up in a few words I think.

Clint
