474th FG (9th AF P-38) Support Units

Need help researching the support and service units of the WWII 474th Fighter Group in England (RAF Warmwell) and the Continent (France, Belgium, Germany). None of the available histories of that unit list their support and service units (depot, maintenance, ordnance, quartermaster etc.). WWII fighter groups had as many as ten support and service units. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.

From roll BO624, on March 23, 1944,, quote, "76 P-38J's were received from Team B of the 486th Service Squadron." But, I am not sure if that meant the 486th was at Warmwell or they were the organization which actually sent them. In April 1944, the 64th Airdrome Squadron starts showing up in group records. In mid to late April, members were sent to various schools and promotions were also included in the 474 records of schools, promotions, etc. Accident reports many times have which Service Group a/c were sent to, but as luck would have it, all of my accident reports were sent to a friend just today on flash drives. Once I get them back I can look through the numerous 474 accidents I have to see what those have.

I browsed April 1945 records from roll B0632 but can't add much more. A 6th Airdrome Squadron was mentioned, Team "B" was repeatedly referred to (but not the number like 486th Service Squadron), some vehicles went to the 1784th Ordnance Co for repairs, some men were on DS to the 1228 MP Company (AVN) and a 1709th Signal Service Battalion was mentioned, but in reference to exactly what is unknown to me. Hope some of this give you some leads. Good luck.

Hello Kent,

Can you explain what happened that day about 486th SSqn please ?
Just for my curiosity.

Best regards

From 70th Fighter Wing records the following were attached to the 474th upon their arrival at Warmwell in April of 1944: 64th Airdrome Squadron, 21st Weather Squadron Detachment J, 40th Mobile Communication Squadron Detachment J, 1228th MP Company (AVN) Detachment A, 16th Station Complement Squadron and 2067th Engineer Firefighting Platoon (AVN)

ClinA-78,

On February 21 it was mentioned that mechanics from the 486th had checked out the wreckage of a P-38 which had crashed at Florennes.

Thanks Kent.
Never come across dumping wreckages at A-78 by the way?
