Airfields of the Baltics
We would like to announce the availability of "Airfields - Baltic States" on the Michael Holms website:
http://www.ww2.dk/lwairfields.html This is the last installment of the Airfields of the Luftwaffe series, completing several year's work by Larry deZeng. Enjoy! |
Re: Airfields of the Baltics
Very impressive. Congratulations! I find it a very helpful source, especially for looking up the right, most common spelling of the names of the airfields.
Kind regards, Timon |
Re: Airfields of the Baltics
Thank you.
some small remarks about Estonia: Jagala: is suspiciosly similar to Jägala. Maybe another name for Jeglecht/Jõelähtme (Ziel-Nr: 101862) Jõhvi - in estonian it's written with õ as second letter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%95 (nitpicking for better searching in internet) Liwakant - maybe Liivakant/Liivakandi. Probably old name for Maardu (also Kroodi) . But map shows also Liivamäe near there :) Moik - estonian name Mõigu Narva-Jõesuu - same remark as for Jõhvi (second part of name) Põltsamaa - same remark as for Jõhvi Sandla - in one german airfield list it's named also Sandel. Tallinn is not yet capital city of Finland, so far only of Estonia. Tõrva - same remark as for Jõhvi Võhma - same remark as for Jõhvi Võru - (estonian name for Werro) same remark as for Jõhvi Wolde - estonian name Valjala Yagoda - 22. kae stationed in Jägala. There are pictures of estonian Hs 126 destroyed there available, so probably this is Jägala (but see also Jeglecht) |
Re: Airfields of the Baltics
Most impressive effort in compiling the Airfields of the Luftwaffe series. A great reference for the rest of us.
Thank you. Best Regards, Sinisa |

Re: Airfields of the Baltics
Thanks for these extraordinary listings - a great help!
Question: For Libau-Grobin I tried to find this: "...Luftflottenkommando 1 which sent a "Tag-Jagdschwarm" II./JG 5 to Libau-Grobin, airfields in Latvia. Possibly only three pilots were sent - Oblt. Theo Weissenberger, Fw Paul Schalk and Uffz Zacharias." ( http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ni+1944&page=2 ). Where they obviously stayed at least a week in May 1944. Not worth mentioning or did I look in the wrong place...? Cheers Hans K |
