Fw 188 project

I haven't been able to locate any information in my books or on the web about the Fw 188 project. Evidently a mock-up was built in 1939 and shown to foreign customers.

Does anyone know anything about it (type, engines, size etc)?

Maybe you mean Fw 187 or Fw 189? I thought the number 188
was reserved for Junkers only...

No, it is the Fw 188. I have documents relating to the demonstration of a mock-up of Fw 188 in September 1939. May be it was transfered to Junkers after Fw didn't use it? After all, 187, 189 and 190 was issued to Focke-Wulf so it would be logical that they had 188 too.

When did RLM start to give out the sequences 109, 209, 309 and 88, 188, 288, 388 etc?

Re: Fw 188 project

Mikael,

you are right, I've found a RLM-GL/C list with the information,
that the number 8-188 was originally given to Focke -Wulf.
It was a project of a reconnaissance plane. But Junkers wanted
the number 188 because of the x88 series. But I don't know if
the complete project was given up. Maybe some working results
were realized with the Fw 189?

Sven.

Re: Fw 188 project

Thanks Sven.

The Fw 189 flew first time in July 1938, more than a year before the document I have mentioning the Fw 188 so it is not likely that they where connected.

Good to see that some things still remain to be discovered! :)
