Guy Gibson colour film 1943.
Unique footage including rare colour material taken of Guy Gibson shortly after the Dams Raid when he was still 24. Other material shows 106 squadron off duty shots and also film of his faithful sidekick; plus a raid to Turin on 26th November 1942.
Just copy the link into a browser; the colour material begins appropriately at 6:17. Saw this at the IWM around 2002 when it was first gifted to the museum and funny how only now I notice how young he was. Anyway, glad it has been finally digitised and made available to view online. Hope it is of interest. https://film.iwmcollections.org.uk/record/1409 |

Re: Guy Gibson colour film 1943.
I liked the part where he shows his awards, all of them still in their presentation cases and not mounted, including the bars on seperate ribbons.. we rarely get a look at how these bar awards were 'given'

Re: Guy Gibson colour film 1943.
have you noticed that in 4:49 you can clearly see a falling and burning bomber?

Re: Guy Gibson colour film 1943.
228 bombers took part in the raid: 45 Halifax, 117 Lancaster, 47 Stirling (2 lost), 19 Wellington (1 lost),
I'm not sure but it looks like Wellington to me. |
