Luftwaffe Air Sea Rescue Aids
Apparently Luftwaffe aircrew had canisters of dye to release if the ditched, which turned the sea a florescent yellow, so as to allow them to be seen more easily from the air. What was this dye or substance they used? Was there an Allied Aircrew equivalent?

Re: Luftwaffe Air Sea Rescue Aids
It was a yellow/green Fluorescein Dye. Fluorescein is a florescent organic dye. In the rescue markers it is in the form of fluorescein sodium,
C20 H10 Na2 O5 (a water soluble salt of fluorescein). http://aviationtrivia.blogspot.com/2...ir-rescue.html or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seenotdienst The allies used similar markers. |
Re: Luftwaffe Air Sea Rescue Aids
Does anyone know what chemical the dye was made of?
