Aufklärer loss - Feb 1944 - South Vitebsk
Sadly I do have no date behind a photograph showing a Whermacht Officer inspecting a huge Russian Flak hit onto the white camouflaged wing of an Aufklärer machine.
The text behind the photograph do inform that the machine (apparently a Ju 88 D or a Fw 189) landed behind German lines to the South (Southeast or Southwest) of VITEBSK. The sole reference is FEBRUARY 1944. I am aware that the Battle of Vitebsk started on the 5 February 1944 so the amount of losses may be huge...however this machine was not 100% destroyed and apparently was recovered with some 40-60% of damages... Is there the RECORD of possible Auflkärer candidates which landed on the South of VITEBSK during this period? A. |
